In September and October this year, the Museum team are pleased to be hosting four exhibitions, all showcasing a wealth of local artistic talent. We are delighted to welcome three local organisations all with substantial credentials and provenance. Haslemere Art Society (3-14 September), Surrey Guild of Craftsmen (10-25 September) and Wey Ceramics (9-30 October) have all been in existence for decades, and work to nurture and promote a wide range of artists and their work. The organisations succeed in bringing together a whole host of people who share a passion for creativity.
In the mix with these established groups is John Braithwaite, a Fernhurst resident. In 2016, having retired from architecture, John developed a keen interest in capturing the strikingly subtle qualities of light and reflections on canvas. John’s debut exhibition will take place from 17-25 September.
These four new exhibitions will offer the ever-increasing number of museum visitors a diverse artistic experience. The Terrace Room and Haslemere Room will both be brimming with paintings, pottery, sculpture and drawings. Also on offer is the chance to get involved in the organisations, which are always looking for new members. Representatives will be in situ in the Museum to chat with during the days of their exhibitions.
On 4th September, during the Haslemere Art Society exhibition, visitors will be able to see Society Honorary President, Roger Dellar, at work on a painting in the Museum. Roger is a member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, The Pastel Society, and The Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He works from his studio in Surrey. He has a keen interest in people and their behaviour, and is fascinated by the way that the play of light transforms a subject, either working in the studio or ‘en plein air’.
