Launched in April 2021, Kin Coffee is already making waves and capturing national attention by being named as the first UK company to offer freshly roasted coffee in reusable and recyclable glass packaging, as well as home-compostable refill pouches made from renewable wood pulp (certified BS EN 13432).
"The first UK company to offer freshly roasted coffee, whole bean or ground, in reusable glass packaging, with home-compostable refill pouches made from renewable wood pulp"
The Times, "The sustainable coffee, chocolate and wine brands we rate" October 2021, Lucy Siegle, Author of "Turning the Tide on Plastic" and Journalist on ethical living.
Their website offers wholebean in milk bottles and ground coffee in jam jars which is made possible by their innovative lids with a “freshness valve” containing 90% less plastic than traditional valves, ensuring maximum freshness of the beans or grounds over time.
The labels are printed on 100% recycled paper which is fully recyclable and purchased from The Sustainable Print Company which are based locally to the roastery.
Kin’s single origin coffees are diligently sourced which ensures not only quality produce, but also ethical agricultural practices, environmental certifications and well looked after farmers who are paid in excess of Fairtrade wages.
Their mainstay coffee "Earlybird" is directly traded with the Lancha Oliveira family at Fazenda (farm) Bom Jesus in Brazil which is both Rainforest Alliance and UTZ Certified. Medium roasted, this bean produces a biscuity aroma, notes of milk chocolate and toasted nuts, an everyday favourite!
"Freebird" is their year-round 100% natural decaf from Columbia (which is decaffeinated at source resulting in fresher produce and a heavily reduced carbon footprint), alongside an exciting range of ever changing seasonally sourced coffees, such as a new carbon neutral coffee from El Salvador- launching soon!
Greg and Kate developed a true passion for 'speciality coffee' whilst living in London before moving back to their kin in the Kentish countryside in 2020. Kin Coffee has already been coined as a 'game-changing brand' due to their mission to provide high quality, sustainably sourced coffee in eco-friendly packaging. All of the beans are hand-roasted with care in micro-batches at their beautiful countryside roastery in Staplehurst, Kent.
