Stagecoach Performing Arts have set the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous performance of one show, as 12,500 students, across 73 international schools, took part in a simultaneous performance of Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast Junior’. This notable achievement is being celebrated by franchisees around the world, following the official announcement from the Guinness World Record team.
The global attempt, which took place in the UK, Germany and Canada, commenced simultaneously at 6pm BST on Sunday 1st July 2018. As part of Stagecoach’s 30th anniversary celebrations, franchisees were encouraged to take part in the record attempt, in hopes of breaking their own record – of 66 performances of ‘Glad Rags’, set in 2008 and commemorating the brand’s 20th anniversary.
Students, aged four to 18, were invited to grace the stage, performing famous musical numbers in front of parents and family, at theatres across the globe. Following in the footsteps of notable Stagecoach alumni, Emma Watson and Nathan Mack – who starred in the 2017 live-action remake of the 1991 classic – the performances were planned and performed in sequence, so that all participants were performing the same scene, at the same time.
As well as independent schools inviting local audiences to watch the attempt, numerous schools from across the UK met to perform a collaborative version of the famous film in central locations. With performance ‘hubs’ at the Watford Colosseum, the Victoria Theatre in Halifax and the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, children were able to share in the excitement of performing to a much larger audience.
Independent adjudicators have now verified all the video submissions from across the globe and have confirmed a new Guinness World Record.
