On Saturday 9th September, an exciting day unfolded for young learners and families in Richmond and Twickenham. The occasion marked the grand openings of the neighbourhoods’ brand-new maths-only learning centres – Mathnasium of Richmond and Mathnasium of Twickenham – welcoming both children and parents to engage in a fun-filled day of immersive maths activities.
Fiona MacKenzie, Centre Director of Mathnasium of Richmond, was determined to make the grand opening a day to remember, “It was amazing to see so many families from our community celebrate the launch of Mathnasium. Now that we’re open, I’m so excited to be providing valuable maths learning experiences for kids in the Richmond area. The families who joined us for the event had a fantastic reaction, and our team can’t wait to welcome them back to experience more of this dynamic learning environment where kids can develop a deep-rooted appreciation for maths.”
With an innovative and personalised approach to education, Mathnasium has earned its reputation for sparking a passion and curiosity for maths. The two grand openings aimed to showcase how the centres are igniting a love for the subject and teaching it in an accessible and enjoyable way to learners from reception to GCSE in Richmond and Twickenham.
“Our event highlighted the fun and exciting aspects of maths,” explained Sasha Niroumand, Mathnasium of Twickenham’s Centre Director. “Beyond celebrating our launch, it was a chance to demonstrate to families that maths is more than just about numbers. It’s about nurturing problem-solving abilities, critical thinking and a robust analytical mindset that extends beyond the classroom.
“Being home-schooled in my early years, I understand the value of hands-on learning and personalised teaching methods. With Mathnasium’s launch here, we’re committed to providing an unparalleled learning journey that caters to each child’s unique style and pace.”
Throughout the afternoon, both Mathnasium centres hosted interactive maths stations, imaginative problem-solving challenges and hands-on games – ensuring a memorable and enriching experience for every child. And the events certainly did not disappoint – one learner, Chris, who attended the Richmond event said, “My favourite part of the event was when we spun the wheel and tackled challenging maths questions. As a reward, we received a goodie bag. I had a lot of fun!”
Chris’ mum, Amybeth, said, “It was a great day out for our children. I loved seeing them so engaged playing maths games. Chris is now asking when he is coming back and said he is really excited to try some lessons.”
Another child, Max, who attended the Twickenham opening said, “I had a great time visiting Mathnasium and playing all the various games – it was so much fun! I hope I’ll have the chance to come back again soon.”
A sentiment echoed by Max’s dad, “My son tends to be quite temperamental when it comes to maths, so we often need to put in extra effort to persuade him to engage with it. However, he’s had such a good time here – especially with the games. I’d love to get him enrolled.”
With the successful launch of both centres, Fiona and Sasha are determined to put personalised maths education on the map in their communities, “Our aspiration is to establish a setting where families can witness for themselves just how approachable maths becomes when it’s presented in a dynamic way that makes sense,” said Sasha.
As for the event, Fiona reflected, “Our event was an unforgettable day, featuring interactive maths stations, engaging challenges, face painting and not to mention the excitement of winning some incredible prizes. We’re so proud to have created an environment where everyone had a fantastic time while simultaneously discovering the exciting side of maths. We’re looking forward to welcoming even more members of the community to experience what Mathnasium has to offer so please contact us to find out about our free taster sessions!”
The centres are offering a free week’s trial up until 15th October. For more information visit https://www.mathnasium.co.uk/richmond or https://www.mathnasium.co.uk/twickenham
