Evoke Classics have unearthed a brace of Phil Read Replica Honda CB750s that are currently listed on their auction site at www.evoke-classics.com/auction/
Phil Read was one of Britain’s most successful Grand Prix racers. He was also one of the fastest, bravest motorcycle racers of all time.
Winning eight world championships alongside 52 Grand Prix victories between 1961 to 1975, he became the first rider to take world titles in the 125cc, 250cc and 500cc categories – a feat since matched only by Valentino Rossi.
Not surprisingly, after Phil Read won the Formula 1 TT in 1977, Honda saw fit to commission Colin Sealey to build a limited run of 750 F2s.
With only 150 initially commissioned in the iconic Phil Read race replica colours of red with a white and blue stripe – and then a further 350 built in white with a red stripe – both bikes are now a truly rare find. Although it is increasingly difficult to know how many are left it is believed that there remain less than 50 replicas and less than 60 Britains surviving today.
Sales Director Sarah Crabtree said: “Most people are aware that my love of motoring started on 70s and 80s motorbikes so when our vendor shared that he was looking to sell this pair I couldn’t contain my excitement, a truly special pair of bikes that we expect are going to be extremely popular”
Commercial Director Paul Cunningham said: “Coming from a small private collection it is pretty rare to see one of these replica’s come to market – let alone two. These are two truly iconic bikes in both the original Phil Read replica colours and a later Britain version. I really don’t know how Sarah finds them”
